Joker made a huge box office success which was quite predictable but the cultural phenomenon it made was what no one saw coming. A pivotal scene in the movie where Joaquin Phoenix’s character seem to finally accept his fate, dancing down the stairs fully dressed in clown costume while on his way to a TV show recording has created a massive buzz, in real life.
A certain staircase, sandwiched by two apartment buildings located in the Bronx district of New York city is a typically busy path where commuters make their way up to board a train to go about their daily activities is the spot where the staircase scene from the movie was shot and no one will see it as just an ordinary stairway ever again. Fans of the film have flocked the location to take pictures causing a social media frenzy. Some go the extra mile of dressing up in painted face and full costume.
“I never would have thought this staircase would be such an attraction because I’ve passed it all my life.” A Bronx resident said excitedly to reporters. But many other residents are not happy about this new turn of event and this is because the location has gradually become crowdy making it uneasy for them to find their way up and down the stairs, plus the noise from the fans have been a bit disturbing. Some of the tourists play out loud soundtrack from the movie while they record themselves.
Until the year ends and this record breaking film becomes just a pleasant memory, more and more people are expected to flood the now famous staircase as it is now a tourist site.
