Hello everyone and welcome to this special edition of FASHION POLICE! Yesterday was Hollywood’s biggest night and today, we will be looking at the major fashion looks from the 92nd Oscars.
(You can check out all the nominees and winners of the night at our Entertainment section here)
As expected, sequined dresses were a main sight on the red carpet, because at a prestigious event as this, the stars all want to look sparkly and glamorous. And speaking of sequins and sparkles, our first look is the star of Judy and winner in the Best Actress category.
Renee kept to her signature body-fitting and simple silhouette in this white one-shoulder number. The photos of the Oscar winner came out a bit dull but in video, the dress shimmered like a sea under the moonlight. However, this look was not a showstopper.
Janelle came with some ‘Met gala’ sauce in this high art fashion piece by Ralph Lauren while looking like a glamorous Roman warrior princess. The outfit made some interesting movements on the carpet and we wondered if she will have a hard time sitting on this dress inside the venue.
Theron’s dress here is as sad as the left drop sleeve. We must have seen her wear something very similar multiple times so yes, this is underwhelming for us.
Although very predictable, we absolutely love Rebel Wilson gold number from Jason Wu. Old Hollywood glamour, it’s very appropriate and fits well.
Beautiful hair, makeup and skin regimen, then you literally wrap yourself in a black scarf and place an amulet in the middle of your boobs?
We feel at this point, Scarlett has almost done it all. Her Oscar de la Renta dress may look glamorous but it is as predictable as hell! The colour? Not flattering
Saoirse Ronan’s Gucci dress reminds of Cardi B’s 2019 Grammy’s shell dress. Her dramatic peplum gives us something interesting to look at, at least.
We believe Cynthia’s statement dress will end up as an owambe outfit in a Lagos wedding, don’t you think so? The Harriet star may have had a bit of a challenge arriving the red carpet on a rainy afternoon in that large skirt but she looks alright.
Anyone who matches their dress with their shoes must have put in a ton of work into their outfit and this we appreciate, like Little women actress here, Florence Pugh who looks beautiful and youthful in her coordinated ensemble. Her Louis Vuitton dress also comes with a belt, cool!
We thought at some point, Natalie would pull off her “cloak” to reveal the delicate Dior Haute couture piece she was wearing inside, but no, it seemed to be part of the outfit. We have to say it was pretty boring…
Regina is a very beautiful woman and we thought her pink dress was equally beautiful. It was simply nice and appropriate.
And now, to reveal the best dressed of the night, our fashion editors have come to a conclusion that most of the looks this year were rather predictable and basic, one star however shined through.
Best Dressed – Cynthia Erivo
The actress may not have won the Oscars which would have made her the youngest EGOT holder in history but she did win on this very red carpet. Cynthia’s look was “the-more-you-look-the-more-you-see,” she had a number of interesting detailings going on, yet there appeared subtle.
Notable Mention – Spike Lee
Spike Lee attended the Oscars wearing an attire that paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant. His lapel distinctively showcases the iconic basketballer’s famous number – 24.
Timotheé Chalamet is such an impeccable dresser but we don’t know how and why he decided to look like a petrol station manager at the Oscars.
Kristen Wiig looks like the flying carpet in Aladdin, but with a glam squad.
